July 31, 2016

freshly mown field
two deer pick their way across
all ears and tails

July 30, 2016

winking up at me
from the bottom of the ditch
yesterday’s rain

July 29, 2016

noisy crickets
on either side of the road
boasting of their field

July 28, 2016

our small lake and
its talent for reflection
giving us back the sky

July 27, 2016

forgetting the trick
of weeding in the morning
sunburnt neck

July 26, 2016

warm pool water
hopes of refreshment
begin to fade

July 25, 2016

gently unwinding
tendrils of wisteria
from the spirea

July 24, 2016

when did looking
ever keep you from vanishing?
(deer, here and then gone)

July 23, 2016

here in my quiver
the story of our meeting...
a long, clear shot

July 22, 2016

remembering sleet’s
inescapability
as the heat rains down

July 21, 2016

one cricket’s rasp
flung into my speeding truck
almost home

July 20, 2016

walking in P’town
our boy asks us about AIDS —
we take a deep breath

July 19, 2016

the last present
at day’s end our boy
takes himself to bed

July 18, 2016

neatly folded in
to our nightly routine
brushing sand away

July 17, 2016

seals near the shore
extending their dominion
to include us

July 16, 2016

in the morning
we realize we haven’t heard
coyotes this year

July 15, 2016

this gang of squirrels
roughly chiding each other
just above our heads

July 14, 2016

the moon tonight
a little more than half full
enough to share

July 12, 2016

together again
after a long time apart
the lake full of chop

July 11, 2016

his first night home
our boy talks in his sleep
in French!

July 10, 2016

our unspoken thought
as the crying continues
too young for camping

July 09, 2016

summer days
looking for ways to
turn the page slowly

Catch You on the Flip!

Yep, it's that time of year again... we are headed to our favorite camping site in N. Truro. There's a new postmaster in town, though, so snail mail sending isn't quite as easy as it once was. Still, we'd love to hear from you... it's easy to call camp and ask them to leave us a note on the camp message board. (They don't mind, truly.)

That number (good from July 10th through the 21st or so) is 508/ 487-1191, and office hours are pretty much all day with the exception of meal breaks from noon-1pm and again from 6-7pm.

Even if you don't have a chance to send a message our way, we know we can count on you to send warm and sunny thoughts... right? And a special thanks to the excellent neighbors who are keeping watch on our little house until we get back.

(For a glimpse at previous years' adventures,

A deer!
bounding across
a field of wheat

(alternate version:

A deer! just its head showing as it bounds across the wheat field)

July 07, 2016

one last splash
finally the lifeguard
gets a chance to swim

July 06, 2016

snagged on the hill
a tattered line of clouds
spring wool on the card

July 05, 2016

dry spell bunny
fur looking a bit patchy
just like the lawn

July 04, 2016

we each cut ourselves
as big a piece as we want
apple pie freedom

July 03, 2016

fireworks and smoke
from the next hill over
one night early

July 02, 2016

twigs and straw wrappers
flown in for the occasion
sparrows nest-building

July 01, 2016

we outrun the storm
only to have it catch us
photo finish rainbow?
