butwait.blogspot.com || At least one haiku I am comfortable sharing. Every day.
long morning walk —low hanging branches bless mewith leftover rain
the front yard bunnycalmly nibbles a souvenirfrom our garden
humming to myselfwith no idea of the tune —my wife hums it back
clouds on their way out —wind-tossed leaves gracing us witha second-round rain
new growth
showing off in brighter green
all the light it gathered
grateful for this daywhen saplings filled out enoughto offer some shade
come drop anotherstepping stone into the creek —look out, crayfish!
just two weeksfrom hatching to flying —busy fledgling cardinals
gardening at dusk —we put the worms backwhere we found them
what if the namesour parents gave us were temporary
front yard bunnyworking its way down the edgeof our shared garden
warbling oriolesdeftly weaving cattail tuftsinto their nests
grackles in the yardteaching Rosie a new word —iridescent
strawberry season —our smallest sharp paring knifeimportant again
after more raina fox visits to remind usto stay hydrated
the rain picks back upin the middle of the night —we dream of rivers
starting to fall —azalea petals giving into insistent rain
light enough nowto dig into more yard workjust after dinner
one last train whistle —the clouds move off as well, making space for stars
bamboo shoots —we wonder if we couldborrow a panda
in the morningwe discovered that the deerhad found the tulips
second floor windowsopened up as it cools off —night air tumbling down
wisteria vinefeeling its way to the roofas we sleep
too worn out to move —a squirrel just looking aroundon this first hot day
cultivating softness —we find a perfect spot forthe new pussywillow
Quaker meeting —we and the birds birds leave silencebetween messages
urban camouflage —a red and black moth blends inwith the graffiti
white azaleas —no sign yet of lightning bugs
so much splashing the bird bath needs refilling —first days of May
stutter-step —we only feel the earthquakeonce we're standing still
